The North Face Explore Fund

Kids today are the future of tomorrow, and we all want them to have as bright of a future as possible. But, with all of the environmental hardships and societal changes our world has seen since the start of the 20th century, many people may be worried about just what type of future may await them. It's no secret that kids today spend more time in front of a screen than they do outside, with TV, phones, computers, gaming, and the Internet in general all vying for their attention. With a growing distance being put between our technologically advanced society and our once cherished relationship with mother nature, it's no stretch to envision a future where this relationship is strained to the breaking point.

Believe it or not, many in the outdoor industry are enthusiastic outdoor activists, and as such, are trying to find ways to invest in a future where the environment is still a priority. Where kids born 20 years from now can still enjoy redwood forests, abundant wildlife and magnificent vistas not with the use of a screen, but with their own two eyes. In order to keep the wonders of our natural world safe for tomorrow, we have to pass the interest and love we share for it on to the next generation.

Enter the Explore Fund™ being organized by The North Face. Part of their "Get Outdoors" initiative, the goal of this fund is to "..inspire and enable the next generation of explorers..", which it has been doing since 2010. Every year, programs that will receive portions of this money are chosen based on a set of criteria, the most important of which is that they work to break down the barriers to getting youth outside. Grantees are announced twice annually, during a spring/summer cycle, as well as a fall/winter one. The North Face has already set aside over $125,000 in grant money for 51 projects across the United States for the coming winter.

Although deadlines for the next round of proposals end today, there is still plenty of time for you and yours to get involved and help contribute to a brighter and greener future, for everyone.
